Early Veterinary Care for Puppies & Kittens
Welcoming a new puppy or kitten into your home is an exciting time! Your adorable little companion will bring a smile to everyone's face.
Along with the thrill of becoming a pet parent comes the responsibility of providing your new pet with the essential care they need to maintain long-term good health.
Our Orléans veterinarians provide guidance and veterinary care tailored to puppies or kittens during their first year of life, when extra diligence is crucial.
Your Pet’s Very First Appointment
Our veterinarians recommend that puppies have their initial veterinary appointment at around six weeks old, and kittens at around eight weeks old.
Exam & Diagnostics
During your pet's first veterinary visit, your puppy or kitten will receive a complete physical examination to assess their overall health, check for signs of any congenital issues, and look for parasites.
Kittens will also have a blood test completed to check for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.
Parasite Prevention & Vaccines
During this visit, you will be provided with the first round of puppy or kitten vaccinations as well as deworming medications.
Follow-Up Appointments
Three or four veterinary appointments will be required for puppies and kittens between the ages of six and 16 weeks. These visits allow our veterinarians to monitor your pet's health and administer vaccinations on schedule.
