This diagnostic procedure can allow us to visualize your Pet’s internal organs in a manner that is often more efficient than X-Rays. We sometimes describe an X-Ray like a photograph or a two-dimensional image, while ultrasound is more like a movie. We are able to see inside an organ and look for abnormalities in its structure or even, in some cases such as the heart, see it in action and assess abnormalities in its function. This procedure has greatly improved our ability to diagnose and treat certain heart diseases. It is also a valuable tool for guiding biopsy instruments, in some cases allowing biopsies without the need for surgery.
