Tranquilization/Sedation

Tranquilizers or sedatives may either be used alone to calm or sedate a patient for a certain procedure, or they may be given as part of a preanesthetic drug regime prior to the induction of general anesthesia. A preanesthetic drug regime is designed to calm and relax the patient, as well as contribute to a smoother induction, maintenance and recovery from general anesthesia. Preanesthetic drugs also help to reduce the overall dose of anesthetic drugs needed to induce and maintain a patient under general anesthetic.
